Floating Wetlands
We are continuing to improve our outdoor space and have added three floating wetlands in the Canting Basin behind Glasgow Science Centre to enhance biodiversity, showcase environmental sustainability, and encourage community conversations around the future vision of the Clyde.
The wetlands span 200m², have over 2000 native plants and trees, and feature nesting platforms to provide a new habitat for wildlife to thrive.
You can get a great view from the decking area behind the IMAX to investigate the islands without disturbing the wildlife. We would love for you to visit and share with us any wildlife that you see!
This project was a collaboration between Glasgow Science Centre and the School of Geographic and Earth Sciences at the University of Glasgow. The University has installed monitoring equipment and undertaken a baseline study of the biodiversity and ecosystem within the basin, allowing for future evaluation to be carried out to measure the impact of the project, and hopefully encourage similar projects to ‘green the grey’ in our cityscapes.
